ROHM has introduced four new compact DC-DC step-down converter ICs that are suitable for various consumer and industrial applications such as refrigerators, washing machines, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and inverters. One of these new ICs is called the BD9E203FP4-Z, which is a 2A buck converter operating at a frequency of 350kHz. These new ICs are designed to be more efficient and take up less space compared to standard SOP-J8 products. The BD9E105FP4-Z, BD9E202FP4-Z, and BD9E304FP4-LBZ ICs employ a COT (Constant On-Time) control mode during light load operation. This mode improves efficiency under low power conditions, making these ICs ideal for applications where minimizing standby power consumption is important.

These converters can deliver an output current ranging from 1A to 3A and come in a compact TSOT23 package (measuring 2.8mm × 2.9mm). This smaller package reduces the required component area by up to 72% when compared to the larger SOP-J8 package (which measures 4.9mm × 6.0mm). This reduction significantly contributes to making power supply blocks smaller. Moreover, these ICs utilize a flip chip on lead frame TSOT23 package design. This design improvement helps enhance efficiency by reducing bond wire resistance.
